As bad as Noble was, the biggest difference was when Nolan dropped back, Downing went central and Valencia was up front rather than left wing.

I'd be amazed if anyone saw otherwise, it was that immediate a response..

I usually defend Noble because I think he gets a bit of a rough ride from many but today he really irritated me - some of his passing in the first half was brainless...really shoddy

The first half we were just working them out

Re: West Ham v Hull - Official Match Thread 3-0 FT
If we struggled as badly in the first half as some of you are saying then that is worrying, particularly as this was a Hull side who have massive injury problems and, as result, couldn't field their best side. If this is because of the formation, then there is only man to blame for that.

Still, couldda, wouldda, shouldda- didn;t. Delighted with a win and a clean sheet. Europe is still on and this is still a good season!

Liverpool will be an interesting one. Their worst side for years in terms of form and a few weeks ago you'd have fancied us to get something at Anfield but we haven't played well in the last few games and have been lucky not to lose a couple more IMO.

Once Noble went off we were better.

Nolan wasn't booed at all.

Re: West Ham v Hull - Official Match Thread
As soon as Nolan was removed from the hole and Downing was free roaming we played better

I'm actually glad we were booed off. Nolan is a useless fat cunt and 451 does not work.

That's why we were booed. Because of fat sam and nolan. Nobody else.

You are a cunt if you think anything else about todayz

A worrying return to 4 5 1 in the first half. Presumably to accommodate Nolan.

Having Downing out wide doesn't work as had been well documented but for me the big issue when we don't play the diamond is that it stops 2 huge attacking threats, Cresswell & Jenkinson from getting forward.

Second half much better when Downing went into the middle and Amalfitano came on.

Sam could have taken any one of Nolan noble or song off for the first sub.

FCJ. Agree. Thoughts about 2nd half display of Nolan? I thought he did ok. Interesting read by Ken Dyer in programme about Nolan's leadership and the important role he plays. One cited example was the penalty shoot out against Everton. He was always the first up to shake penalty taker's hand when they returned to players' area. ....I thought he put a shift in today and did a lot of shielding.

Re: West Ham v Hull - Official Match Thread 3-0 FT
Things I noticed today

The team were too complacent at kick off.
Downing should play central and not on the wing
Valencia is a handful when confident.
Noble slows down our play and is too negative.
When we settle and play football we are actually quite good.

This was an awful Hull side and we were troubled first half. They should have scored several times and luckily for us wasted them. The goal changed things and the game opened up. Good changes today although I hope we aren't struggling for centre backs as Collins and Tomkins will be missed if they are both out.

Other sides we face soon will have far more quality and if we give up chances like today we will be buried before we get started.

Re: West Ham v Hull - Official Match Thread
Yeah we fucking won but we should have been at least 2 down at half time. Had we not been playing a terrible side playing something like their 4th choice striker (who ripped Tomkins a new one several times) the game would have been over at half time.
Yes he made changes in the second half and we played well and went on to win easily but why the fuck isn't he playing the obviously better formation straight away? Hoofball against a team playing 4 centre halves was never going to work ever. Yet he thought that was a good idea. Nullifying our best player this season by playing him out wide is a mistake he repeats time and time again. I dont understand it.

Call me old fashioned but if you must have a plan A and a plan B then plan A must surely be playing your best side and passing it right? Plan B if you must is the route one shit. Samuel seems to only want to pass it if hoofing it doesn't work.

Perhaps he sees hoofing it as the lower risk strategy defensively speaking?

Either that or the bloke is surely be doing it to prove a point. Its fucking bizarre. He's mentally ill or something for sure. And a cunt.

Re: West Ham v Hull - Official Match Thread
First game this season and I could see what a lot of you guys have been moaning about.....first half Downing was impotent out on the wing. A few times Adrian bowled a ball to him to spring a counter attack but Downing is not your man for that. Every time he put the brakes on, slowed it down and the counter initiative was lost. Second half, different gravy in the centre. I appreciate that Sam needs to mix things up from game to game and, as today, half to half - but if something works (eg Downing in centre), it works.

Some of the arguments are perfectly valid but we're through to the 4th round of the cup and we won 3-0 today despite being absolute shit in the first half.

Our fans fit into the three categories below:

Glass half full.

Glass half empty.

No glass at all BECAUSE THE USELESS FAT CUNT ALLARDYCE ATE IT JUST AFTER PICKING THAT USELESS FAT PRICK NOLAN YET A-FUCKING-GAIN.

Really helped us when 2 of their first choice centre halves had to go off!

And a quick first goal after Half time didn't hurt! Played really well from then on
